Bangalore Metro Enhances Mobile QR Ticketing for Family and Group Travel

BENGALURU (Metro Rail & Steel): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has ushered in a new era of convenience by broadening the accessibility of its mobile QR ticket system. This significant expansion now caters to families and groups traveling together on metro trains, enhancing their commuting experience. Previously limited to individual passengers, the Mobile QR Tickets were accessible via various mobile applications like Namma Metro, Paytm, WhatsApp, and Yatra.

What’s New for Families and Groups:

Effective from Thursday, BMRCL is introducing mobile QR tickets designed for families and groups of up to six passengers. This move aims to streamline the travel process and offer greater convenience.

BMRCL’s Mobile QR Tickets offer a 5 percent discount on the token fare. A single QR ticket encrypted with the number of passengers allows effortless entry and exit. Each individual in the group needs to scan the QR ticket only once to access the station and exit at their destination. BMRCL encourages passengers to opt for mobile QR tickets in advance from the comfort of their homes or offices. This initiative aims to reduce long queues at ticket counters, making the ticket purchase process hassle-free.

Earlier this year, BMRCL introduced discounted tickets for large and medium groups of travelers. Large groups (over 1000 persons) receive a 20 percent discount on the token fare, while medium groups (100 to 1000 persons) enjoy a 15 percent discount. Commuters in these groups must enter and exit stations together to avail themselves of the discount. Currently, the Bangalore Metro operates two lines: the 43.49-km-long Purple Line with 37 stations and the 30.32-km-long Green Line with 29 stations.
