Despite the fact that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has not yet published tenders for the construction of a depot, the process to acquire rakes for Metro Line 6 has already started. The 16 km line will crisscross above the Central and Western railway tracks before connecting Vikhroli and Lokhandwala along the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road.
Although MMRDA plans to complete significant work on the depot in 24 months, construction on the depot is projected to be finished in 30 months. This will enable it to conduct rake testing and assist in the operation of a few services. The MMRDA has launched tenders for the purchase of 13 rakes in the interim.
