Mumbai’s Rail Network Disrupted: Railways Cancels 2525 Trains from October 26 to November 5

MUMBAI (Metro Rail & Steel): Mumbai commuters will face continued disruptions as Western Railways announces the suspension of approximately 2525 suburban train services between October 27 and November 6, 2023. This extended cancellation comes as a consequence of the ongoing construction of the sixth line between Khar and Goregaon stations on the Mumbai suburban section of Western Railway.

The railway authorities have been working to execute the 8.8 km long additional line between Khar and Goregaon. In an official statement, Western Railways expressed their commitment to delivering improved services to Mumbai suburban commuters. They expect the project to significantly enhance punctuality and, in the near future, offer additional train services to accommodate the ever-growing demand.

The project, which commenced on October 7, 2023, is advancing at a rapid pace. Western Railways emphasized that meticulous planning has been carried out to minimize disruption to rail traffic. The non-interlocking work, a vital phase of the construction, is scheduled to begin on October 26 or 27, 2023, and will continue until November 5, 2023.

This decision is part of a planned Mega Block executed in connection with the non-interlocking work. Consequently, Western Railways anticipates a series of measures, including cancellations, partial cancellations, short-terminations, short-originations, and rescheduled train services between October 26 and November 7, 2023.

While the temporary inconvenience may continue for commuters, Western Railways remains steadfast in their commitment to enhancing the Mumbai suburban rail network, ultimately benefiting millions of daily passengers. The ongoing projects aim to provide long-term gains in the form of increased connectivity, reduced travel time, and improved transportation infrastructure for Mumbai’s bustling metropolis.
