According to a Railway Board order, the Indian Railways will reduce the prices for the AC chair car and executive classes on all trains operating within India, including the Vande Bharat Express trains, by up to 25%. Depending on occupancy, the initiative should benefit passengers who ride trains like the Vande Bharat Express, Shatabdi Express, Anubhuti, and Vistadome coaches.
According to the Railway Board, the prices will also be determined by those of competing modes of transportation. This scheme will not be applicable on special trains introduced as holiday or festival specials.
According to a report, the rail ministry has decided to give authority to the chief commercial managers of railway zones to implement discounted fee programmes on trains with AC seats in order to maximise the use of available space.
“This scheme shall be applicable in AC chair car and executive classes of all trains having AC seating accommodation, including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches,” the Railway Board order stated.
The scheme can be temporarily suspended as a way to improve occupancy in trains where flexi fares are applicable in a specific class and there is a low occupancy rate.
