DMRC Chief Urges Commuters to Curb ‘Objectionable’ Activities in Delhi Metro Amid Viral Videos

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail & Steel): Following a spate of controversial videos surfacing in Delhi Metro trains and premises, DMRC’s managing director, Vikas Kumar, issued a plea urging individuals to abstain from engaging in “objectionable” activities within the transit system. Kumar highlighted ongoing efforts by DMRC to address and curb such incidents, expressing the need for public cooperation in maintaining decorum.

In an interview with PTI, Kumar acknowledged the challenges posed by these incidents, emphasizing the corporation’s efforts to combat them. He disclosed that surprise checks are conducted regularly by designated squads to deter inappropriate behavior and ensure compliance with norms. Several videos capturing passengers indulging in disruptive acts have circulated on social media platforms, portraying instances of individuals dancing, romanticizing, or engaging in intimate acts within metro compartments. Kumar stressed the importance of community involvement, encouraging passengers witnessing such activities to report them to authorities for prompt action.

“While we counsel individuals engaged in such activities, we urge them to desist for the betterment of society. Our security personnel cannot be omnipresent. It is also the responsibility of citizens to alert authorities when such incidents occur,” Kumar affirmed, highlighting the joint responsibility in maintaining a conducive environment.

Kumar reiterated DMRC’s vigilance through both CISF security personnel and undercover DMRC squads, focused on deterring norm violations and ensuring a safe commuting experience. Despite the efforts made, certain incidents have gained traction on social media, prompting public concern and questioning DMRC’s efficacy in curbing such behavior. Acknowledging the impact on Delhi Metro’s esteemed reputation, Kumar emphasized that the brand’s integrity remains uncompromised. He urged passengers to uphold discipline and avoid disruptive actions, emphasizing the metro’s stature as a center of excellence.

DMRC has initiated awareness campaigns through social media and outdoor advertisements, featuring creative content appealing to commuters to refrain from filming reels and causing discomfort to fellow passengers. Notwithstanding DMRC’s stringent norms against unauthorized video recording, the trend of controversial videos within the Delhi Metro persists.
