For the convenience of passengers, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will start operating extra trains on the Namma Metro Purple Line from September 1. The additional trains will run between Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic) and Mahatma Gandhi Road metro station from Monday to Friday.
Ridership on Namma Metro increased by 16% in July compared to January. According to a report from the Deccan Herald, more than 6.2 lakh people rode the metro every day in the month of July. Since April, there has been a continuous rise in metro ridership, with 54 trains carrying more than 6.2 lakh people each day.
“BMRCL will be operating additional trips on weekdays (Monday to Friday) with effect from September 1. Passengers intending to travel beyond Mahatma Gandhi Road towards Baiyappanahalli may kindly alight at Mahatma Gandhi Road metro station and board the subsequent train,” the BMRCL press release read.
The daily ridership is expected to exceed 7.5 lahks after the 2.1-kilometre route between Byyappanahalli and KR Puram and the 1.9-kilometre stretch between Challaghatta and Kengeri are operational.
