Noida and Ghaziabad Residents Demand Direct Access to Rapid Rail Corridor

NOIDA (Metro Rail & Steel): Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ghaziabad priority section of the Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS), residents of high-rise societies in the National Capital Region are advocating for direct connectivity to this public transport service.

The inauguration of the 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor by PM Modi on October 7 marked a significant milestone in the region’s transportation infrastructure. Commercial operations commenced the following day. However, residents in many areas of Noida and Ghaziabad are emphasizing the urgent need for straightforward access to key public transport points such as Metro stations, railway stations, and the RRTS to truly benefit from this development.

“The RRTS is a great development; we want straight connectivity to key points like Metro stations, railway stations, Delhi, and the RRTS. Without any proper public transport, many such residents are forced to opt for a personal car,” said Abhishek Kumar, President of the New Era Flat Owners Welfare Association.

He further highlighted that several densely populated locations in the region still lack a proper public transport system. In addition, he pointed out that some feeder buses to metro stations in areas like Greater Noida West, which were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, haven’t been reinstated, compelling residents to rely on private vehicles.

“We have been demanding a bus service to key points for a decade, but nobody pays attention, Politicians only appear when they need votes; otherwise, they rarely try to know what we need. A direct connectivity to the RRTS will not only provide relief to thousands of residents but will also help in the reduction of pollution,” emphasized Ujjwal Mishra, Secretary of the Federation of Crossing Republic Residents Association.

Residents hold high hopes that with the inauguration of RRTS services, the authorities will also prioritize enhancing last-mile connectivity, thereby alleviating the ongoing transportation challenges faced by residents in these areas. The call for improved connectivity is not just about convenience but also contributes to the reduction of traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
