Train Services Disrupted: 33 Trains Cancelled, 6 Rescheduled Following Andhra Train Accident

ANDHRA PRADESH: After a devastating train collision in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district at least 13 people lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries when two passenger trains collided between Kantakapalle and Alamanada Stations of the Waltair Division on Sunday evening.

East Coast Railway officials, as of Monday have reported that a total of 33 trains have been cancelled, and six others have been rescheduled in the wake of this tragic mishap. Biswajit Sahu, Chief Public Relations Official of East Coast Railway, Bhubaneshwar, shared the extent of the disruptions and adjustments made in the aftermath of the collision.

Out of the 33 trains cancelled, Chennai Central to Puri (Train Number: 22860), Raigada to Guntur (Train Number: 17244), and Visakhapatnam to Guntur (Train Number: 17240) have been affected. Additionally, two trains, Chennai Central to Shalimar (Train Number: 12842) and Alleppey to Dhanbad (Train Number: 13352), were rescheduled today. These measures have been taken to manage the challenges posed by the collision and ensure the safety of passengers.

The tragic incident involved a rear collision between the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train and the Visakhapatnam-Ragada passenger train. The collision resulted in derailment and destruction, with three coaches bearing the brunt of the impact.

In response to the emergency, rescue operations were swiftly initiated, with local administration and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) alerted for assistance. Ambulances and accident relief trains were dispatched to the site to provide immediate support.
