Chennai Metro Rail Introduces Seamless Ticketing Experience with PhonePe Integration

CHENNAI (Metro Rail & Steel): Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has rolled out a partnership with PhonePe, introducing a hassle-free digital QR-based ticketing system for metro commuters. This innovative initiative aims to streamline the ticketing process, allowing passengers to bypass long queues at stations and ticket counters.

Passengers traveling on Chennai Metro can now easily book digital QR-based tickets via the PhonePe Switch platform, ensuring a seamless travel experience while continuing to avail the existing 20 percent discount offered. M A Siddique, the Managing Director of CMRL, unveiled this digital ticketing system at Metros, Nandanam, Anna Salai, marking a significant leap towards enhancing commuter convenience.

In its initial phase, PhonePe will offer the service of booking single journey tickets through its Switch platform. However, plans are in place to introduce return journey ticket bookings and smart card recharges on the app, extending more convenient options to metro travelers shortly.

PhonePe, in tandem with Chennai Metro, has expanded its digital ticketing services to Hyderabad Metro, Mumbai Metro, and Delhi Metro as well. Commuters can effortlessly obtain e-tickets for up to six individuals simultaneously on a single device, allowing for smooth entries and exits by scanning the tickets at the Metro station gates. To facilitate the journey, commuters only need to scan the PhonePe app at both the entry and exit gates of Metro stations, streamlining the process and making travel more convenient and efficient for all passengers.
