Shanghai Metro Expands with New Line 18, Enhancing East-West Connectivity

Shanghai Metro has officially opened Line 18, a 55-kilometer track connecting the city’s eastern and western districts. The new line includes 20 stations and is designed to reduce congestion on other major lines, particularly during peak hours.

Line 18 is equipped with energy-efficient trains that feature regenerative braking technology to reduce power consumption. The trains also include improved ventilation and seating arrangements for enhanced passenger comfort. With an estimated daily ridership of over 300,000, the line is expected to become a key artery in Shanghai’s metro network.

Shanghai’s transport department has hailed the new line as a milestone in its ongoing metro expansion. The city plans to add several more lines in the coming years, aiming to create one of the largest and most efficient metro systems in the world.
