Railways Announces Operation of 1,700 Special Trains for Festive Season Travelers

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail & Steel): Amidst the festive fervor, the Indian Railways has rolled out an extensive plan, initiating the operation of 1,700 special trains across the country to accommodate the surge in travelers. Additionally, the railway authorities have implemented meticulous arrangements at stations to ensure the convenience and safety of passengers during this festive season.

This announcement by the Indian Railways on Tuesday underscores their commitment to facilitating smooth travel experiences for the multitude of passengers expected to traverse various destinations during the festive period. The railways have made available a record-breaking 2.6 million berths, marking a substantial increase in accommodation availability.

In a statement released by the Indian Railways, emphasis was placed on the implementation of robust crowd control measures at major railway stations. Senior officers have been deployed at strategic locations to oversee and regulate crowd movements efficiently, ensuring a systematic flow of travelers. With a focus on crowd regulation and safety, both the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have been stationed at foot-over bridges. Their primary objective is to manage the bustling crowds, thereby averting any potential stampede-like situations during peak travel hours.

The railways’ proactive measures come in response to recent incidents, notably a tragic event at Surat railway station resulting in casualties. To mitigate such occurrences, heightened security measures and crowd management strategies have been reinforced across stations. Specifically addressing the Anand Vihar-Kaushambi vicinity near the Anand Vihar railway station and inter-state bus terminal, where a surge in travelers was witnessed on November 10, the Indian Railways aims to streamline the influx of passengers in such high-traffic areas.

To further enhance passenger safety and assistance, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have been strategically placed in CCTV control rooms, enabling real-time monitoring of crowded zones. Their immediate intervention and aid provision aim to ensure passenger security and swift response in unforeseen situations.

The railways have implemented a queue system for entry into general coaches at originating stations, enhancing orderliness and easing boarding processes. Detailed announcements regarding train schedules, coach locations, and platform specifics are made well in advance to ensure passengers are adequately informed. For long-distance travel, mixed escorts are assigned to significant trains, offering real-time assistance and support, particularly to female passengers.
