RATP, the operator of Paris Metro, has started testing autonomous trains on Line 14, aiming for full deployment by 2025. The tests are part of Paris’s larger plan to automate its metro network and improve operational efficiency. Line 14 is one of the busiest lines in the city, and automation is expected to increase capacity and reduce train intervals during rush hours.
The autonomous trains are equipped with advanced sensors and AI systems that can detect obstacles, monitor track conditions, and adjust speed in real time. RATP is also installing an upgraded signaling system to support the new technology and ensure passenger safety.
This initiative is part of Paris’s preparations for the 2024 Olympics, where a seamless and high-capacity metro system will be essential. The city hopes that automation will not only improve the reliability of services but also reduce operational costs in the long run.
