Canadian Pacific completes integration with Kansas City Southern
Canadian Pacific (CP) has successfully merged with Kansas City Southern (KCS), creating the first fully integrated Canada-to-Mexico rail network in North America. The new entity, CP-KCS, will offer seamless freight services across the continent, streamlining logistics for industries that span the three countries, including automotive, agriculture, and manufacturing.
This merger is expected to boost North American supply chain resilience by providing faster, more efficient transport options along key trade routes. The integrated network is set to reduce dependency on trucking across borders, which has been subject to congestion and delays. CP-KCS has pledged to invest $2 billion in infrastructure upgrades over the next decade to support increased freight capacity.
In addition to enhancing efficiency, the CP-KCS network is anticipated to reduce emissions by cutting down on truck miles. This initiative is also expected to spur economic growth, creating jobs across rail operations in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.
