Los Angeles Metro Begins Construction on New Westside Subway Extension

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has started construction on a new subway extension to the Westside, set to connect downtown LA to the bustling Westwood area by 2028. The 9-mile extension will add seven new stations, providing a crucial link between the city’s business district and its popular westside neighborhoods.

The project, estimated to cost $6.3 billion, is expected to ease traffic congestion on the city’s notoriously busy freeways and make commuting more efficient for thousands of residents. The extension will feature modern, eco-friendly trains with low emissions and high energy efficiency.

The Westside Extension is part of LA’s broader goal to improve public transportation options ahead of the 2028 Olympics, which the city will host. Officials hope that the new subway line will encourage more residents to choose public transit, helping to reduce air pollution and reliance on cars in Los Angeles.
