The forthcoming six new Mumbai Metro lines in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will have 3,603 out of 4,929 pillars, or 73% of the construction is completed, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) here on Thursday.
These include Metro 28 (D.N. Nagar-Mandale), which is 50% complete (614 out of 1,109 pillars), Metro 4 and 44 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali), which are 55% complete (973 out of 1,476 and 143 out of 221, respectively).
Metro 5 Phase 1 (Thane-Bhiwandi) is 78.40 percent complete, Metro 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Vikhroli) is 657 percent complete, Metro 9 (Dahisar-Mira Bhayander) is 776 percent complete, and Metro 5 Phase 1 (Thane-Bhiwandi) is 61.28 percent complete.
“We are prioritising the completion of all Mumbai Metro corridors as quickly as possible. The recently inaugurated Metro Lines 2A and 7 are providing relief to lakhs of commuters, contributing to reduced highway traffic plus air and noise pollution,” said MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee.
According to him, the MMRDA is currently hiring a consultant to help with the Metro 10 project between Gaimukh and Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road in Thane district) and a general consultant for the Metro Line 12 project between Kalyan and Taloja (also in Thane district).
