Derived from the Latin word “Levitas” which means “lightness,” the term levitation indicates the rising or lifting of a person or thing by unnatural means. It is the process by which an object is held aloft, in a stable position, without mechanical support or physical contact. Magnetic levitation trains, or maglev trains, are high-speed AI-enhanced trains that move by gliding above dedicated magnetic guideways without making any contact with the tracks. Maglev technology represents the realization of the 21st-century engineering vision of high-speed, magnetically propelled vehicles that can move from one place to another, without the maintenance and safety concerns associated with traditional railroads.

The development of renewable energy infrastructure, such as wind turbines, as well as industries like construction, the automotive industry, and consumer goods will depend on green steel, which is a key enabler for the green transition. By 2030, there will be a 50M tonne demand for decarbonized steel in Europe alone, which is almost a third of the current demand.
On the similar lines, Norway-based Blastr Green Steel has announced that it will invest €4B in a steel plant in Inkoo, Finland, where it will begin operating by the end of 2026 and become a significant user of green energy. The manufacturing facility will have a green hydrogen production unit that will be powered primarily by wind energy.

During the COP27 climate summit, host country Egypt signed eight agreements to develop greenhydrogen. Among the announcements, one of the largest was an agreement with Fortescue Future Industries to build 7.6GW of renewable energy, which has the potential to produce 330 kilo-tonnes of green hydrogen annually. Green hydrogen is just one of the materials required for the transition towards green steel. Others include low-emission iron-containing materials (metallic charges) such as scrap steel and green hydrogen-based direct reduced iron (DRI) and hot briquetted iron (HBI). These essential raw materials and abundant sources of renewable energy are not available worldwide. The

One of the primary forces behind industrialization has been the use of metals. Steel has traditionally occupied a top spot among metals. Steel production and consumption are frequently seen as measures of a country’s economic development because it is both a raw material and an intermediary product. Therefore, it would not be an exaggeration to argue that the steel sector has always been at the forefront of industrial progress and that it is the foundation of any economy. The Indian steel industry is classified into three categories – major producers, main producers and secondary producers.

Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw recently informed that the nation will roll out its first domestically designed and built hydrogen-powered train by December 2023.
“We are designing and the design should be out anywhere by May or June,” Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters during a visit to the southern city of Bengaluru.
According to reports, the hydrogen-powered train will be called Vande Metro and will be manufactured in large numbers with an objective to replace the trains built in the 1950s and 60s. Currently, most of the trains in India are powered by diesel or electricity.

EU’s carbon border adjustment mechanism, or CBAM, could be implemented as early as 2023 when European companies have to start reporting emissions of imported goods, although they will not need to purchase CBAM certificates until 2026-2027. The Council of the European Union and the European Parliament is yet to decide on the timeline. This gives Asian governments some breathing room to put in emissions accounting frameworks, but decarbonizing supply chains could still take years to accomplish, analysts said. The EU’s governmental agencies all feel CBAM is necessary to protect EU businesses against cheaper product imports from lower carbon pricing regimes and replace [EU’s] free allocations of emissions allowances.

Joka-Taratala is not the only achievement of RVNL. RVNL has already delivered many such marvellous projects in the past and continues to work on many projects of national importance. The reputed PSU plays a crucial role in the development of metro & railway related infrastructure in India and abroad.

There have been instances of tussles between centre and states about funding and budget allocation for upcoming metro projects. There have been other reasons as well which have caused significant delays in implementation of new projects.

India is now leading the world in development of infrastructure projects. However, it is very unfortunate that a country which has more than a dozen metro projects has not developed a single metrolite project.

Policymakers and bureaucrats must understand the seriousness of infrastructural projects. The delay in the land acquisition process in Maharashtra is entirely a failure of the bureaucracy.

It was the occasion of Independence Day last year when prime minis ter Narendra Modi made an announcement that Vande Bharat trains will connect every part of the nation during the 75 weeks of the Amrit Mahotsav. With this announcement, 15th August, 2023 is the deadline for delivery of 75 Vande Bharat trains. Although, after the induction of thefirst Vande Bharat train into the fleet of the Indian Railways in the year 2019, only two were operating when the prime minister made many announcements

As the technological improvements in all fields are developing with time, allow us to verify the usage of artificial intelligence in destiny operations of Metro systems. Let us know first what is AI.
Artificial intelligence is likewise referred to as AI is a department of computer science technology worried with constructing clever machines able to appearing obligations that normally require human intelligence. With its creation to the world, the tech enterprise has used it carefully to develop their corporations worldwide.

Nagpur is considered to be the geographical centre of India. The city has multiple identities – from Orange City to Tiger Capital. These identities reflect in the way city has progressed over the period. On its own, Maha Metro has taken major steps to promote local traditions, while preserving the culture.

Indian Railways is set to see a record capital expenditure (capex) of Rs 2.6 trillion in fiscal year 2023-24 (FY24). This announcement in the Budget on February 1 would give a push to the massive infrastructure expansion lined up and the government’s share would contribute around Rs 2.4 trillion to this — the highest ever.
The Railways is targeting an operating ratio of 98.45 per cent for the fiscal year, compared to a revised ratio of 98.22 per cent in FY23. This means the Railways aims to spend about Rs 98.45 for every Rs 100 it earns in FY24. During the last fiscal year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had allocated Rs 1.4 trillion for the rail sector. “This year is the highest ever outlay in the history of Railways — almost nine times the outlay made in 2013-14,” the finance minister said.

RRTS has been making headlines after Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Puri said that the government of NCT of Delhi has not agreed to fund RRTS sections to Rajasthan and Haryana. The development comes after the Board of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation had in December approved the construction of the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor – the first installment of the longer Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar corridor. It was estimated to take five years to complete this section of the project. The proposed corridor is expected to cost RS 37,000 crore. The Delhi-Meerut RRTS project is being developed at a cost of whooping Rs 30,274 crore.

The opening of Line 2A and 7 of Mumbai Metro has changed the face of public transport system in the financial capital of India. The response which the metro network is getting from the riders clearly shows that Mumbai Metro will soon become the lifeline of the Island city of Bombay.

The European Union’s (EU) Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will not only disrupt global trade but also have a negligible impact on climate, according to a report released by Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI).
The carbon tax is also expected to pose a significant challenge to India’s metal industry. As much as 27 per cent of India’s iron, steel, and aluminium exports worth $8.2 billion went to the EU in 2022, the think tank said. Electricity, fertiliser, hydrogen, and cement will also attract carbon tax, but in this case, India will not be affected as it does not export these products to the EU.

Signaling systems in railway allow the control, supervision and protection of railway traffic. These systems play an important part in a railway’s capacity and availability. Thus, their reliability and maintenance are key concerns. A number of signalling systems are on the market today; these work to guarantee safety while meeting the required capacity of the network. In order to keep the railway network in an optimal state, it is critical for the signalling systems to have tools that can make data mining and analysis easier and faster.

The Railways has directed its zones to instruct loco pilots to follow prescribed speed limit in trains fitted with a controversial German-made braking system, a day after a preliminary report revealed that the faulty brakes were likely to have caused the Sultanpur collision. It has also instructed the zones to monitor the loco pilots’ braking techniques.

A new concern for India is raised as China has planned to construct a new rail line that will operate near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and through the disputed Aksai Chin region, according to a report.
According to a new railway plan revealed by the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) government, the rail line will operate near the line of actual control (LAC) and through the disputed Aksai Chin region.

The 118.9km phase-2, planned with 128 stations including 48 underground at an estimated 61,843 crore, is expected to be completed by 2026.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) in tie up with Russia’s CJSC Transmashholding (TMH) has emerged as the lowest bidder in the tender for manufacturing and maintaining 200 sleeper variants of the Vande Bharat Express trains. BHEL-Titagarh has emerged as the second lowest bidder. Indian Railways is looking to manufacture 200 Vande Bharat Express sleeper trains – a more premium version of Rajdhani Express trains. As per reports, Indian Railways is looking to ramp up the production of Vande Bharat Express trains by awarding this contract. The present technology used to manufacture Vande Bharat trains will be used by the new manufacturer.

India is one of the largest producers of steel in the world. However, the country has only one major private player which manufacturers HT & HH Rails. Wheel manufacturing on the other hand is in more neglected condition. It is very ironic that India’s rail wheel needs are still met mainly by imports.
