Patna Metro seeks innovative technology to ensure safe and seamless travel

The implementation of the sophisticated communication-based train control (CBTC) technology for its stops and depots was announced by Patna Metro Rail on Friday. It is a cutting-edge signalling technology that promotes effective train movement on the Mass Rapid Transit technology by wirelessly communicating crucial data including position, direction, and speed between the trains and the control centre.

According to a representative of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the CBTC system will provide better sustainability because it uses less energy than human operation does. Automatic speed regulation will avoid needless braking and acceleration, saving a significant amount of energy and reducing air pollution.

“The CBTC system will enhance safety by enabling real-time monitoring and control of train movements, preventing accidents and collisions. The system will detect and react to any malfunction in the train, ensuring a safer metro experience. By increasing the frequency and speed of train operations, travel time will be faster, and the metro system will be able to transport more passengers in a shorter time, reducing crowding and wait times,” said the official.

“The implementation of the CBTC system is expected to reduce maintenance costs significantly. The system’s constant monitoring and early detection of potential issues will allow preventative maintenance, reducing the likelihood of major disruptions in services,” the official added. The system will also provide real-time information on train schedules and delays,” she further said.
