Five Chennai Metro Rail Stations Set to Receive Last Mile Connectivity Facilities Soon

CHENNAI (Metro Rail & steel): Chennai’s burgeoning metro rail network is gearing up to offer enhanced last-mile connectivity, with five pivotal stations slated for major improvements. Thirumangalam, Guindy, Chennai Airport, Koyambedu, and Alandur stations are in line to receive upgraded facilities aimed at easing commuter transit experiences within the bustling city.

Officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) have outlined a strategic plan to introduce various electric vehicles tailored to suit diverse passenger needs. These vehicles, available in configurations ranging from four-seaters to 12-seaters, are anticipated to provide convenient transportation solutions for the substantial footfall experienced at these key stations.

The initiative’s commencement will involve CMRL initiating an expression of interest (EOI) process. This step will enable the assessment of vendor capabilities, financial viability, and potential business models for executing the last-mile connectivity enhancements.

While the selection of these specific stations for immediate upgrades, among the expansive 54 km operational network, lacks explicit clarification, commuters have persistently advocated for comprehensive last-mile connectivity across all stations. Presently, some stations already feature minibusses and e-autorickshaws. However, the forthcoming introduction of electric vehicles marks a positive stride toward meeting the community’s long-standing demand for seamless transit solutions.
