Chennai Metro Submits DPR for Coimbatore Metro

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has submitted a detailed project report for Coimbatore Metro. Ramesh Chand Meena, Additional Chief Secretary of Special Initiatives, received a thorough project report for the Coimbatore Metro on Friday from the Chennai Metro Rail Limited. The report was delivered by M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of CMRL. The government of Tamil Nadu intends to build a metro rail system in Coimbatore’s Avinashi Road and Sathyamangalam Road for 9,000 crores for 39 km and 32 km, respectively.

Coimbatore City, known as the Manchester of South India, is one of the fastest growing Tier-II cities in India. It is a centre for economic activity, including textiles manufacture, trade, commerce, technology, medical facilities and manufacturing. The metro project will be taken up keeping in view the growth potential of the city.

The State government has also allocated Rs 10,000 crore towards the 119-km-long Phase-II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project . , which is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 63,246 crore. The first stretch of the elevated corridor from Poonamallee Depot to Kodambakkam Powerhouse is expected to be commissioned by December 2025, he said.
